“I think it is enormously important, both for democracy and for humanism, that we actively say no to hate speech and to the harsh tone.”

These are the words of musician and songwriter Mathilde Falch, who herself has experienced how the media's hunt for cliques and an increasingly fierce debate can create divisions and cause people to withdraw from public conversation.

December 10 is United Nations International Human Rights Day, marking the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. On this occasion, fabula and Amnesty International invite you to a writing cafe on December 9, 7pm-8.30.

The event is part of Write for Life, the world's largest human rights campaign, where hundreds of thousands of people each year write letters to people imprisoned or persecuted to fight for their rights.

This evening, among other things, you can write to the Egyptian human rights activist Marwa Arafa, who has been imprisoned since 2020 for her peaceful commitment. You can also write to the responsible authorities and demand action.

Roberto Zacharias of Amnesty International opens the evening with an introduction to the campaign and the people we write for. After that, we find paper and pen and write letters by hand, a small personal act that can make a big difference.

We serve coffee, tea and cake, and children are also welcome. We provide drawing tools for the little ones.

Write a letter. Save a life!
